7/10
I have loved Sherlock Holmes for a long time, through films and series that are broadcast digitally. The Sherlock Holmes series on Netflix, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as two other films starring Robert Downey Jr. So, I decided that the next novel I read this month will be the Sherlock Holmes series, The Hound of Baskerville.
This novel tells of a mysterious murder case involving the myth of Curses and Superstition. A large Fiery Dog with glowing red eyes, has been haunting the Baskerville family for hundreds of years.
Holmes, with rational thinking is clearly interested in this case, with the ambition to break existing superstitions. Accompanied by Watson, they went to the Baskerville residence close to the Great Swamp, where the death due to the Hellhound occurred.
Chases, deductions, traps, all these things can be found in this story. Plot twist comes in the middle of the story adding to the excitement. I also like the depiction of the scene, a village in remote England surrounded by misty marshes, adding to the mysterious impression.
The characters introduced in the story have unique and intelligent characters. Holmes in the book tells Watson that, "This is perhaps the first comparable enemy we have ever faced."
My impression is quite happy for the first Sherlock Holmes novel that I read. From the start of reading this novel I tried to guess how the rationalization for a dog whose eyes and mouth were full of fire could exist. And I failed to guess, so at the end of the book I had to hear Holmes' explanation.
Oh yes, if I remember correctly, in one of the Detective Conan comic chapters, there was a case where the same trick was used to create a fiery hellhound. It even leaves a trail of fire when the dog walks. But I forgot which chapter, hehe.
